MUSTARD GOES WITH EVERYTHING

As I am an extreme fan of mustard, and it's such an underrated colour as people never know what to wear with it, I though I'd do a lookbook of how I style mustard, and proof that it's a colour that goes with everything.
I've also found that it goes really well with purple/burgundy jeans, and black and white trousers, though I don't have pictures here to demonstrate. I also have some very well-loved mustard colour tights from H&M that unfortunately do not feature here.

Please enjoy these bloody awful photos, work is being done in the garden so the bedroom was forced to make do.

THE AUTUMN SHOE EDIT

We're in that time of the year where I find it hard to tell if it's classed as autumn or winter, but for the sake of naming this post it's autumn. Less than a month till Christmas and less than a week till December... weird.

Shoes- Dr Martens
These are my previous school shoes but I think they look really good with skirts and they go with everything. I do look really clumpy in this photo, but it is really hard to photograph shoes (thanks to my brother for these).

Boots- Dr Martens
My family are avid DM fans (we have a ridiculous amount compared to normal people). My boots are my babies and I love them so much.

Boots- Simmi Shoes
I cannot express my love for these shoes, they're new this year and they're so beautiful and they go with everything and all that jazz. They're muddy I'm sorry.

Brogues- Clarks
Winter pastels are big this year and these have the beauty of being able to be worn all year round. I don't wear them all that often but I'd forgotten how lovely they are. They don't go with black though.

Wellies- Peter Storm (Millets)
Wellies are perfect in the Autumn/winter for playing in leaves and snow (like we're every going to get any snow). The perk I've found with wellies is that they go with everything, no matter what pattern and what you're wearing, because they're wellies, They just do.

I LIKE SCARVES A LOT

If the title didn't give it away, this is a post about scarves. I own far too many scarves but they are the perfect accessory, and obviously I need a new one every year...
Thank you to my  brother for photographing.

'The Secret Nerd'
As massive Harry Potter fans, my family couldn't simply ignore the scarf selection when we went to the Harry Potter studio tour. We didn't buy the Hufflepuff one as both of them were yuck, but we bought the Gryffindor, Ravenclaw and Slytherin ones, the Gryffindor being mine. This is the most perfect scarf as it's super thick and wooly and it combines two of my favourite colours: burgundy and goldy-mustard.

'The Fake Designer'
It looks like a designer scarf but it's not, and I'm not sure where it's from. This was my go-to scarf last year and it's one of those perfect scarves that you can wear all year round. It's so big and super soft and, being black and white, it goes with everything.

'The Forgotten Favourite'
Another scarf that is wearable all year round- especially in the Spring. This is a snood rather than a scarf but it's so so beautiful and, hence the name, one that I'd forgotten I owned. It's from New Look but unfortunatly quite a while ago; New Look are one of the best places on the highstreet for beautiful, high-quality, affordable scarves, being a maximum £15-£20.

'The Classic'
This is my new scarf for 2014 and another New Look beauty (£9.99 I can't even). The tartan scarf is the classic Autumn/Winter accessory, it completes every outfit and you can never go wrong with one. My love of tartan is acknowledged, but this is a wardrobe staple for everyone and I'm obsessed. It took me so long to find one I liked and I was iffy about the yellow bits, but I love it so so much, my mother is now buying one for everyone this Christmas.

WHAT I'VE BEEN READING #2

I was going to do this in one post but I realised I've read so much in the past few months and I'd wanted to include all of them, that I was going to have to do it in two posts. At least.

Gone Girl- Gillian Flynn
Not going to lie, most of the books on this list I read because everyone else was reading them but I did enjoy this one. It's one of those books that's quite easy to read but is a true page turner, there were a lot of plot twists and some of it was very tense. I liked it but I don't think it deserves all the things it's hyped up to be, I definitely wouldn't define it as a 'thriller' as it was not at all scary, and I did hate the main two characters, but I think you're supposed to. Many people said the ending was disappointing and, though I would say it didn't have the big explosion of sorts that it should have had, it wasn't fully disappointing for me. Also, does the title bug anyone else? It doesn't look or sound grammatically correct to me.

We are all Completely Beside Ourselves- Karen Joy Fowler
I was so excited to read this, I literally waited a whole month for my library reservation to arrive. I love the idea behind this book, it's like your classic 'missing child' book but with the world's biggest twist. Starting this book, it had the potential to be amazing, it's one of those books where you literally can't even begin to imagine how it's going to end or what's going to happen next; personally I wasn't all that keen on the plot twist (you will die when you read it, it's the biggest twist I've ever read) as for me it completely changed the whole tone of the book and I think the author could have done something pretty spectacular without the twist. This book was an eye-opener to the behind the scenes of animal labs, the stuff that we all already know but don't like to think about; I did love this book, but it had the potential to be so much better, it just depends on what angle you look at the story.

We Were Liars- E. Lockhart
This book not only destroyed my heart, it ripped it into shreds in front of me whilst laughing at the pain. I got this book out the library, not realising that it was actually teenage fiction, but that doesn't even matter here, it's incredible. I read it in two days and would've done it quicker if not for homework. The book builds up mystery from the word go... and then the reality of the book hits you and you break. After finishing this I literally thought I would never be happy again. I loved the book, I love the cover, I love the characters, I love the setting, I love it so much I'm buying my own copy so I can have it near me always.

Daughter- Jane Shemilt
I found that this book took quite a long time to actually get going and it's another of those books that I never really got into. I greatly disliked all of the characters and the situations themselves seemed at bit too outlandish to be true. I just didn't like this book, and that's all there is to say about it. It wasn't the worst thing I've ever read, but I definitely wouldn't recommend it to a friend.

If I Stay- Gayle Forman
I started off not too sure about this book, it does sound slightly like it was written by a ten year old at times, but overall I actually quite enjoyed it. I actually managed to finish the whole thing in a day. I have one major negative about it, and I'm not going to give anything away (though everyone can probably guess what happens), but the scenes at the start of the book with Mia and her family are just too cringey and happy-clappy to function, the conversation between them is written sounding unbelievably forced and, being at the start, the scenes almost threw the whole book off for me. But overall I did enjoy it, I'm definitely going to see the film at one point (love love love Chloe Grace Moretz) and I will probably read the sequel book. It's not the best thing I've ever read, but it's no where near the worst.

THE ALTERNATIVE FAVOURITES

I have decided this month to pile together my recent random favourites as I thought it'd be a nice change from the normal beauty-and-added-extras favourites, and there's not enough new products that I've been loving at the moment to make a whole post on it. (Everything is kind of jumbled but I've tried to put similar things together).

-The Return of the Costa Christmas Menu
Obviously the most important first. The Costa Christmas menu is basically the highlight of my year, I love all the festive themed drinks and cakes and super cool cups, last year I'd tried every Christmas drink on the menu by January. There's also the couple of Christmas Starbucks drinks, though Costa just have an overall wider selection; I am super upset that Costa didn't bring back their honeycomb hot chocolate because it was the best ever.
Excuse my horrible thumb.

-Planner
I think I mentioned my planner in another post recently (can't remeber which) but basically I'm obsessed with it. Sadly, one of my favourite things in life is to organise myself and the planner just excites me so much. I basically love my planner like a child.

-Wuthering Heights- Emily Bronte
There's more book things coming up this month but I had to mention here that I'm really enjoying 'Wuthering Heights', it's a fsntastic, weird book and everyone needs to read it. It's set on the West Yorkshire moors (where the Brontes lived) and it's fast becoming one of my all-time favourites.

-Goodreads
I like books and I like to be organised and I like making lists. Goodreads is my new favourite thing and everyone needs to be on it. (I'd say you could follow me, but I only signed up the other day and I'm not actually sure what my username is). Does anyone else regret not documenting every book they've ever read ever?

-New Look
I haven't seriously shopped in New Look in about four years, but they are on point at the moment. Their winter (I'm talking about tartan) range is incredible and I haven't been so impressed by New Look in a long time.

-Cropped Jumpers
All of my jeans are high-waisted so I've really been loving cropped jumpers recently (no pictures as they will all be appearing in upcoming big posts). I find cropped jumpers to be really flattering and they can be dressed up or down with jeans, nice trousers or skirts.

-John Lewis Christmas Advert
This basicially signals the official start of Christmas and we are allowed to get excited. It also makes me cry like a baby, I don't like to think about last year's one.

-X Factor
I don't think I've been this into X Factor since 2010 (I was obsessed that year) but I've suddenly got really into it and there's people I actually like and quite a few really talented people and no one else is watching it this year I'm so alone in the love.

-Elissa Franceschi- Neon Lights
Elissa is an amazing singer and the sweetest person, plus her brother sings in You Me At Six, though that should play no factor as she is incredible in her own right. Her 2013 EP, 'Devoid of Rue' is amazing and I absolutely love every song on it. 'Neon Lights' comes from her latest album that came aout recently (called 'Chemicals') and I love love love it. As cheesy as it sounds, this song made me smile in a way that no other song has recently and I need someone to love Elissa as much as I do as someone will come and see her live with me.

-Body Shop Shea Lip Butter
This has been and will be featured more in upcoming blog things (ooh exciting) but I had to mention it here. It's basically a miracle lip product, I use it every single night and I wake up with super smooth lips, I feel that my lips are now slightly dependent on it as they're super dry if I forget it for even one night.

WHAT I'VE BEEN READING #1

I've been reading a lot recently, like literally plowing through book after book after book (I have a library reserved list longer than my arm). I thought, instead of writing multiple reviews of each book, I'd include them all here in one post (and this isn't even all of them).

Apologies, nigh on impossible to phottograph

How to Build a Girl- Caitlin Moran
This is Caitlin Moran's first novel (she's written other non-fiction books) and I love her column in the Times Magazine so I thought I'd give this a go. And oh my God did I love it. It made me want to drop out of school, write for a music magazine, live in the 80's, wear even more black than normal, smoke a pack a day, and spend the rest of my time hanging out in London pubs with musicians. I think I may have had an epiphany while reading it. It's funny, it's rude and a lot of it is so very real. Amazing.

Emma- Jane Austen
One thing that not many people know about me is my complete, unabiding, unforgiving, eternal love for Jane Austen. I love everything about it, I love her books, I love the whole 'Jane Austen' world, if I could live in any time period it would be smack bang in the middle of 'Pride and Prejudice' or 'Emma'. If you didn't know, the 90's film 'Clueless' is actually based on 'Emma', and the two of them are some of my most favourite things in the whole entire world. 'Emma' is everything I love about Austen, it has the country village lifestyle, the attractive men, and it's just so cheerful, I love it.

The Importance of Being Earnest- Oscar Wilde
I have realised that this is probably one of my most favourite stories of all time (it's a play not a book); it's just one of the happiest, funniest and most uplifting things I have ever read and I am just so in love with it. Plus, a film with Colin Firth, Rupert Everett, Reese Witherspoon and Judi Dench? Yes please. (The film is amazing, watch it).

Frankenstein- Mary Shelley
I had to read this for my English Literature A2 course and to be honest I really didn't like it. It was really hard to get into the story and I don't think I ever properly did. Thanks to this book I didn't read for weeks as I saw reading this as something of a chore but I wouldn't let myself read anything else until I'd finished it. Unless you really love Gothic literature, sadly, I probably wouldn't recommend this.

The Rosie Effect- Graeme Simsion
I loved the first book of this duo, 'The Rosie Project', which I wrote a review on way back. I didn't think the book needed a sequel, but I was willing to give it a go anyway. I'm not going to suagr-coat any of this, I didn't finish the book, because I actually found it really boring. I'm really disappointed as I loved the first book, but this one was just really boring, cringey and uncomfortable and I'm so glad I didn't waste my money buying it. (You should totally read the first one though, just don't bother with the second- I didn't even get half-way through it).

Jane Eyre- Charlotte Bronte
I read this over the summer when I was (and still am) trying to work my way through classic literature novels. I love this book, the story is so good and it's one of those books where you get invested in all the characters. I would say, though, read the book before you watch the film as I watched the film first and the book definitely loses something if you know whats to come (no spoilers).
